The new Webmanager is released with nice features for developers such as a performance panel, content API additions, a personalization API and drag&drop in the page tree. Get your copy in the download section. The highlights of GX WebManager 9.5 are:
The performance of a high availability CMS such as GX WebManager is based on many factors and parameters. GX WebManager is extended with a Performance dashboard component which gives application managers and system administrators more insight in these parameters and bundles the key performance indicators on a central location. This will provide real-time information like memory usage, number of sessions, query and page response times.
The personalization API can be used to retrieve personalization expressions and models, in order to use them in presentations and WCBs. This will create more ways to work with personalization and can create exciting new ways to apply behavioral targeting for example.
The content API provides read and write access to a large number of operations on WebManger content. The basic content API will be extended with more functions to create and update content such as pages, articles and elements from WCBs and form handlers. This results in more ways to benefit from Web 2.0 functionality such as tagging/tag clouds, discussions and user ratings. Creating automatic content and feed imports will be easier and can benefit from more features.
Editors and application managers can now perform operations on the site tree much faster because there is a context menu that appears after right-clicking on a page in the site tree. The menu contains common operations like creating and deleting pages. Besides the context menu it is possible to drag and drop pages in the site tree.
With the improved MS Office connector it is possible to import any content (pages, tables, pictures) from MS Word, Excel or other Office applications into GX WebManager. Content can be imported as pages but also as custom content types. This means you can create custom MS Word templates (such as a ‘Vacancy’ template) and transfer their content to a WebManager content type (such as a ‘Vacancy’ content type). This allows users to import many documents with less than 3 clicks with a maximum of flexibility.
With GX WebManager 9.5 it is very easy to register new WebManager Component Bundles (WCBs) on WCMExchange, the online marketplace for web content management components. Developers are advised always to register new WCBs so they can take advantage of the central location of this market place. Various methods are implemented to support the registration form the first WCB build to deploying the WCB on a production environment.
