Taking to GX from an external Java process?

The "WCB: Java development" forum contains threads on issues that are related to Java while programming a WCB (WebManager Component Bundle). If you have questions that have impact on Java code, post them in this forum. Some example topics: authorization, the different component types, setting up component dependencies, data access, and so forth.

Hi,

Is there a way to talk to GX externally? I.e. without developing GX components. I am still busy with that autoimport feature, but I was thinking about creating an external piece of software, although out of the documentation I wasn't able to figure out what is the right way to talk to GX API from outside, or, if that's not possible, what's the right component to create in order to be able to run it as an on-demand command.

Gr,
Vladimir

Depends on what you want. If you just want the contents of the latest articles, I guess you could set up an RSS feed and tap into that from your external software.

The API can only be talked to by WebManager components. The philosophy being that WebManager wants to give you a maximum in flexibility by allowing you to tap in to core API functionality so you can interface with your external application in any way you like.

Maybe you are looking for the servlet component? Check the "WCB Development - Quick start" document on the Documentation page to see how to set it up.

Greetings,

Patrick

Or do you mean like SOAP? In that case, a.f.a.i.k., that isn't possible yet.

Naah, not soap. Maybe exposed API that you can use from outside or something like that, but so far I figured that what I initially wanted is not possible.

Thanks!
