Reach more people with Google Translate

March 4, 2010

Many GX customers have multilingual websites. Some are very happy with only a couple of English pages, but several are managing to offer a full 1:1 translation in 5 languages or more. The last category will most certainly use professional services from internal or external translation agencies.

In order to make things easier we created a WCB component that connects to Google translate to quickly do a translation to 54(!) other languages. I'm well aware that the result is not suitable for publishing yet because it will always take a human to correctly rewrite and interpret the text. But it will quickly and easily take you to a roughly 50-80% translation.

It's another nice example of what you can do with GX WebManager components. You can connect to the Google translate API, to the GX WebManager content API and you can also integrate it in the publication workflow. This component can easily be transformed and connected to other translation services that translation agencies use.

Try it yourself

You can download the Google translate WCB for free at http://www.wcmexchange.com/googletranslation/ . If you want a similar connection to A-grade translation software please contact me.
